Karl Marx Allee - A Great Communist Avenue
Karl Marx Allee used to be Stalinallee, but for obvious reasons the name was changed in November 1961. In Karl Marx Allee parades were held during Communist times. The buildings are ca 50 years old, but somehow they seem modern. The houses were built in order to compete with the West, but this street was at the time one of the few that was really good. Sometimes the city district of Tomtebo in Umeå (Swedish only) Sweden, has been compared to this particular street and therefore there are also some pictures of it.
