A glorious summer with temperatures around 20-30 degrees and sun most of the time. Highlights were as usual the four parks in the central parts, St James’s Park, Green Park, Hyde Park, and Kensington Gardens. But we also walked in other parks, further out, like Greenwich Park, Tooting Commons, and Morden Hall Park. We sat in the shade of the huge maple trees and enjoyed the parks.
Back home people worked with our kitchen, and we received pictures of the progress made from time to time. This year we also visited The Tower of London with its installation of poppies all around the Tower. The ravens were keen onlookers of the people watching the poppies, which can be seen from many of the pictures.
As it was so warm we favored tube lines that had air-conditioning, like the Circle, District, the Overground lines, and of course the Elizabeth line. The latter is featuring in many of my photos, as its design is fantastic. The Overground has split into six lines: Liberty line, Lioness line, Mildmay line, Suffragette line, Weaver line, and the Windrush line. We traveled to all stations on the Overground lines. There is also a tram system in London and we have visited many stations on the system before, but this time we made sure to visit the ones that were left, so now we can say that we have visited all stations on the tram system.
Greenwich Park is a favorite of mine. I had never visited the observatory, so I did so this time. The Prime Meridian is as always fascinating, which can be seen in some pictures with a lot of noughts. The views from the park across to Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf is a great one. We also visited the Queen's House for the first time.
We had lunch and dinner in a quite a few pubs, The Kings Arms in Greenwich, The Minster Tavern in Ely, and The Old Thameside Inn on the South Bank in London. The Kings Arms is a pub we often visit when we go to Greenwich. Otherwise we eat at Five Guys and Tortilla a lot.
Worldclass shopping is easy in London with shopping malls like Westfield London, and Westfield Stratford, stores like the toystore Hamleys, The Lego Store at Leicester Square, Foyles for books in Charing Cross, the flagship bookstore Waterstones in Piccadilly, and above all the Department Store Fortnum & Mason. As we have a new kitchen, we bought a few things there for the kitchen, as soap, kitchen towels, tea, and silicone brushes. Some of them are featuring in the photos.
We also changed hotels after 18 days from Thistle London Heathrow Terminal 5 to Radisson Red, also at Heathrow. Radisson Red had a movie theme at the hotel, with movie chairs and pictures of movie heroes.
We also visited highrise buildings like Horizon 22 and The Lookout. The viewing platforms were at approximately 250 meters and 200 meters respectively.
Turf was also an integral part of the journey, and we walked and turfed in many places. When Stefan came to London he and I also biked with electrified bikes in southern London. That was fun, so I also did that on my own when he had left.
All in all we were in London 26 days, and we drove home during the night to the 11 July.
