Umedalen

Umedalen is a part of the city of Umeå, and has a lot of attractions for the tourist. I am there at least four times a week even though I live on the other side of the town. IKSU Spa is a place where you can work out and it is located in Umedalen. Most importantly there are a lot of sculptures in Umedalsparken (The Park of Umedalen), sometimes known as Skulpturparken (The Sculpture Park). Every second year there is an open-air exhibition for a few months, and afterwards the company Balticgruppen buys a few of the sculptures.

My absolute favorite is Beamwalk by Christos Gianakos. On New Year's Eve 2006 I walked on it, thereby fulfilling the title of the work. That day also went down in history in Umeå, because it was the first time (at least I think so), that we had a green New Year's Eve. I have only experienced it once before, and it was in Stuttgart a year earlier.
