Unter den Linden
Unter den Linden is one of the most famous streets in Berlin, and perhaps the street with most monuments in the world: Brandenburg Gate, Bebelplatz, St. Hedwigs-Kathedrale, Neue Wache, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Humboldt-Universität and The Equestrian Statue of Friedrich der Grosse (Frederick the Great). It was in Bebelplatz the Nazis burnt books 10 May 1933, among others Selma Lagerlöf and Erich Maria Remarque. Neue Wache is a memorial to victims of war. Inside is the Mourning Mother with her Dead Son by Käthe Kollwitz. The Statue of Friedrich der Grosse had to move around in Berlin, since the DDR (GDR)-authorities had problems coming to terms with the Prussian legacy that the statue represented. Between 1950 and 1981 it had to be in the garden park of the castle Sanssouci at Potsdam.
