Cambridge and London 2009 |
In June 2009 I once again had the opportunity of attending class at Bell International College in Cambridge. This time I learnt more about the test Certificate in Advanced English (CAE). My girlfriend accompanied me to England, but she did not take part in the lessons. She had a good time exploring Cambridge and London on her own. We went to London in the afternoons, and therefore the pictures are mixed. We were also punted by a nice student on the river Cam. I especially liked the large statue at St. Pancras, depicting a man and a woman saying goodbye to each other. To my great disappointment The Australian War Memorial was closed for renovation this year, which was rather disappointing. On the day of our departure we went to Greenwich, and to our great luck there was a 16th Century Day there. I met King Henry VIII and I had to bow to him be allowed to take a photo. As one last thing before we went on, I wanted to try my skills at archery. I could shoot five arrows and I nearly hit the guy on the photo in his right eye, which I was supposed to do. I missed the head with the other two, and the person standing next to me helping me with the longbow was extremely generous when he said of one of the misses: "Great shot, you took the man behind!" I really liked the comment. |
