Dresden

Dresden is a city that has risen from the ashes and ruins of World War II. In 1945 there was just one wall standing of the Frauenkirche, but since 2005 the whole church is there once again. It is the pride and joy of the citizens of Dresden. I talked to a woman working at a Shell petrol station on the outskirts of the town. I said that I had been to Dresden in 2001 the first time, and she immediately said: "Then the Frauenkirche was not finished!" Her eyes were glowing with pride. I said that there was no shopping center in the city center either. "No, the Altmarkt Galerie had not been built then." My favorite spot in Dresden is apart from the shopping center, the Zwinger. I can sit there for an hour just looking at the buildings.

In the second last picture the bridge Blaues Wunder can be found. People are quite fond of it, and why not: it was a technical masterpiece when it was built. The very last picture shows the Pillnitz Palace, just a few kilometres from the city center.
