Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe is a young city, founded as late as 1715 by Karl Wilhelm. He needed somewhere to take a rest, hence Karl's rest (Karlsruhe in German). Its biggest sight is, of course, the castle from the same century. What we see today is a wonderfully restored palace, well worth seeing. Over 280,000 people live in Karlsruhe, and the city is the seat of the Supreme court and the Federal Constitutional Court. We visited the city on New Year's Eve (but in daylight), and we enjoyed it enormously.
