USA 2014
We love the USA and this year we had the opportunity to visit California and Hawaii. In California we once again saw Los Angeles with its many sights and suburbs. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Getty museums, and the Simon Norton Museum were highlights for us as art lovers. We had never visited Disneyland and this year it was the time. We saw Donald Duck, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, and other Disney celebrities. We even ventured across the border to Mexico, so we have now visited a suburb of Tijuana. In San Diego we discovered to our great joy the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, which we also saw last year.
In Hawaii we went to Pearl Harbor, the famous air and naval base that was attacked by the Japanese on 7 December 1941. We visited the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, which houses the USS Arizona Memorial. The Pearl Harbor Historic Sites houses the USS Missouri, Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor, and the USS Bowfin, a submarine permanently moored at Pearl Harbor. Also the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan was anchored in the harbor the first day we were there. We also saw bananas in trees and pine apples on bushes, which were unusual sights for Swedes. On Big Island we saw the world's biggest volcano, Mauna Loa. We visited the city of Hilo and saw rain forests for the first time of our lives.
What makes us return to California every year are the beaches of Los Angeles. This year our favorite beach, Manhattan Beach, was visited by a few sharks, but it was only around Manhattan Pier. I can sit for hours watching the Pacific, as it is my favorite ocean.
